UCC Kids Club is Back; Sunday Bible Classes; Young Adults to Waves Soccer (UCC Family News, 8-30-18)

Second Service (1)
So excited to see everyone who joined us for the evening service last Sunday!

UCC Kids Club is Back!
UCC Kids Club for children from Kindergarten through 5th Grade will return on Thursday, September 6, from 4-5pm in Baxter Park! Two Seaver students, Hannah Kate Albach and Marcus Reaves, will be working with Al this year to lead this weekly time for our children to form relationships with each other and our community through play, Bible study, and special activities. See you next Thursday at 4pm!!

Important Information: Sunday Adult Bible Class
We are so excited to have 52 people RSVP’d for our fall semester adult Bible class! Robby got the class off to a great start last Sunday. This Sunday, Al will lead an introductory session that will be followed by substantive sessions with John Barton, Dave Lemley, and John Wilson beginning on September 9. We will also begin recording the class for those that need them on September 9. Starting this Sunday, our class will meet in the Kresge Reading Room in Payson Library at 9am each Sunday until December 16. New plan: Please enter through the doors by Starbucks!  Please email al.sturgeon@pepperdine.edu if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Fall Semester Bible Classes for All Ages
In addition to the adult Bible class, we are excited to announce plans for our teen and children’s classes!
-The youth group will continue the Survey of the Old Testament at Dusty’s condo.
-Our children’s classes will study the Old Testament prophets:
* Cradle roll: Emily & Jason Jarvis (Plaza 191)
* Preschool: Rachel Jolly (Plaza 190)
* K-3rd grades: Julia Held (Plaza 189)
* 4th-5th grades: Corinne Le (Plaza 188)

Young Adults to Pepperdine Soccer at UCLA
Last year about a dozen young adults went to UCLA to watch Pepperdine women’s soccer take on the #1 (until we got there!) Bruins and walked over to Diddy Riese for ice cream/cookies afterward (picture attached). Well, there is a rematch this year at 7pm on Friday, September 7, so we will be there again to cheer on the Waves! And eat more ice cream and cookies!!

School on Wheels
There will be a big basket at the right door facing Elkins for School on Wheels school supplies this Sunday. Envelopes with checks inside made out to School on Wheels, with school supplies in the memo section, are also acceptable. Our congregation is always generous as we remember those students in kindergarten through high school who are homeless. School on Wheels, formerly headquartered in Malibu, but now in Ventura, serves homeless students all over Ventura, Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Yes, some right here in Malibu. If you are interested in serving one or two hours per week as a one-on-one tutor for a homeless child, please e-mail bglass@pepperdine.edu or sign up at http://www.schoolonwheels.org or call 805-641-1678.
