A New Year – Updates!
It is our prayer that our church will be a “home away from home” for students, where they can find belonging, purpose, and most of all, a deeper relationship with Jesus.

We have re-envisioned some of our ministries/worship times to help in that process. A detailed update is forthcoming, but some highlights of our plans include:
*Sunday morning will include new banners to let passerby’s know we are on campus, students helping in the welcoming process, a continuation of the e-bulletin, and more.
*Teller will be speaking at the Well regularly on the theme “Get Real.”
*House Groups will be changing to “Life Groups” with curriculum that is based off of the “Get Real” teaching. Life Groups can be hosted anywhere and at anytime (thus the change from “House” group) and do not necessarily include food.
*Our Sunday evening worship is being moved to Saturday evening and will be in a “House Church” format. This service will still have Taylor/Well Collective leading music, but will be hosted by Gary and Tracey Hanson (dedicated attenders of our Sunday evening worship last year). We are excited for this opportunity to reach our students in a different setting. The House Church will begin on September 7!
*University Church Office Hours are 9am-10pm Monday through Friday. While students use this space continually to study and hang out, ALL are welcome to come enjoy our comfortable and fun hangout space.

Please be prayerful over these ways that we are working to draw our students into community that produces transformational relationships with Jesus.

*University Church Office Hours will expand again to 9am-10pm Monday through Friday beginning the first week of school. While students use this space continually to study and hang out, ALL are welcome to come enjoy our comfortable and fun hangout space.

Please be prayerful over these ways that we are working to draw our students into community that produces transformational relationships with Jesus.

Following worship on Sunday, August 18, there will be a send off for Garrett Le and Eric Truschke at the Breeding’s condo. A light lunch, slide show and time of affirmation and prayer will be included. All are invited!

Ice Cream Social Invitation from the Parmelees
We invite you on Sunday, September 1, at 6:00 p.m. to our home — 3498 Calle Quebracho, Thousand Oaks.  This activity was started as a celebration of our church’s Sunday School program.  We invite anyone who has attended Sunday School in the past year, anyone who has EVER attended Sunday School, and anyone who MIGHT attend Sunday School someday.  Bring ice cream (homemade or bought), toppings or go-withs, blankets or lawn chairs. We look forward to this time to celebrate the richness of being together and the goodness of our Sunday classes.

A New Year – Updates!
A new school year is upon us. Many of us have already sent our kids off to their first days of school, while others are trying to squeeze in the last few days of summer before the craziness of a new year completely engulfs us. As a ministry staff, we have been praying and planning for this very time – when hundreds of new students will be pouring onto campus – excited, eager, tentative, anticipating the unknown. It is our prayer that our church will be a “home away from home” for them, where they can find belonging, purpose, and most of all, a deeper relationship with Jesus.

Update from Alemes
We have received a recent update from Mindi and Dereje Aleme regarding their stateside fundraising efforts. They have been received well, but unable to raise the funds necessary to return to Ethiopia now.  The Hollywood Church of Christ  cares well for them so they will remain here for the year.  This will allow their boys to enroll in school and to care for some health problems.  Mindi is looking for a job and Dereje will continue fundraising and periodically going to Ethiopia to encourage and oversee the work there.  Many faithful people are continuing the prison work and the soccer ministry.  Please pray for this dear missionary family.
RECENT UPDATE: Mindi has just accepted a position as a Resident Director for Housing and Residence Life at Pepperdine. We are so thankful to have them be a part of this community and to be lights to our students!

Note from the Bentons
As was announced in church this past Sunday, the previous Sunday was Andy and Debby Benton’s last with us, at least on a regular basis.  Andy has written, “Debby and I find our hearts full of love and gratitude as we depart our full-time presence on campus and return to the Oklahoma City-area where we met, married, and spent the first ten years of our married life.  When we left for California and opportunities at Pepperdine in 1984, it was hard.  It is now hard to leave this campus, the wonderful people here, and our congregational home for the past 33 years.  All will be well, and we have much for which we are grateful.  We pray for the University Church regularly and will continue to do so.  Please pray for us in this change and the opening of a new chapter.”  If you have the chance to see Andy or Debby, give them a hug and thank them for their support of and faithful service to our church.

Prayers:
Discernment for the next steps for our church family.
-Ann Warford – healing from a fall/broken foot.
