Office Furniture

Sunday Worship in Elkins Auditorium on Sunday!
We anticipate a large group of high school students from across the country on campus for Pepperdine’s CrossWays program to be with us this Sunday. As a result, we will move to Elkins Auditorium for the adult Bible class at 9am – taught by Jeff Walling – as well as for our worship service at 10:15am. The Sunday sermon is titled, “Culture Wars: From Shamgar to Samson,” and our songs will be led by Randy Gill and Won By One. Please be sure to meet as many prospective University Church of Christ members as you can on Sunday!!

Youth Group Summer Lockout
The youth group summer lockout is scheduled for this Saturday (July 14) from 10am to 10pm. Drop-off will be at Dusty & Cecily’s (24348 Baxter Drive).

Report from Joseph Dzamesi in Ghana
“The National Science and Math Quiz Competition started on Monday, 11 June 2018, with 135 schools from across Ghana participating. In our first contest Sonrise Christian High School was paired with two other schools, one of which is a two-time National Champion. Given that this was the very first time we were participating, nobody expected us to win the contest. On Friday, 15 June 2018, Sonrise Christian High School did what seemed impossible by beating the two-time National Champions. This was a shock and dominated the news on TV, in print, and in electronic media for the entire weekend and gave us more publicity than we could have ever asked for.”

New Plans for Fall Semester
We announced two new initiatives for the fall semester yesterday morning in an ongoing attempt to draw more college students and resident families into community with our church family:

  1. We intend to increase the use of our office space when students return in late August. Specifically, the office will be open in the evenings starting at the end of August to provide a space for students on “night campus.” Plans are still under development, but we anticipate the office being open and staffed from 8am to 10pm Monday through Friday.
  2. We will launch a second worship service opportunity on Sundays starting on August 26 from 5-6pm in Stauffer Chapel. The service will offer the same sermon from Sunday morning along with communion but will feature a different musical worship style (i.e., instrumental music). More details to come later.

Special Youth Group House Group at the Beach
This Wednesday night, July 4th, the youth group will be heading to the beach for our first baptism night! If you are interested in being baptized, contact Dusty, Joel, or Robby. We’ll spend the evening at Ralph’s beach (at the end of Malibu Road, behind Ralph’s) for baptisms and fireworks. Dusty, Joel, and Robby will be driving, so meet at the Breedings’ house at 6:30pm for transport. No food will be provided this night, so eat before you come.

Middle School Retreat
Our first ever middle school retreat is happening this Saturday, July 7. You can register at https://goo.gl/forms/6pcckFZcNyy6CzjG2. Contact Dusty, Joel, or Robby for details or questions.
