Humans of UCC: The Bauman Family

BaumanThank you for being such a special part of our church family – we will miss you! We are praying over your move to Baltimore.

1. What is the most exciting part about moving to Baltimore?

We are excited to experience four complete seasons (yes, we will freeze) and see what East Coast living is like! But more than that, we are so excited to experience the history and character of the city and surrounding areas. Baltimore is centrally located among some of our nation’s most beautiful sites, cities, and attractions. From museums in Washington D.C. to the Statue of Liberty in New York, there are new and incredible life opportunities that we can’t wait for our children to experience.

2. What will you miss the most about Malibu?

Malibu has been my home for the past 19 years, Chris and I met here at Pepperdine when we were freshman. (In fact, Pepperdine has been a part of the family since 1947 when Chris’ grandmother was the first among many to go here). Pepperdine and Malibu have been our children’s home and all they’ve ever known, there is a lot to miss! Besides the beautiful sunshine, the beach, and the spectacular views, we will sincerely miss the friends we’ve grown with and the surrounding community that has become our family over the years.

3. If you could describe a perfect family outing, what would that look like?

Oh goodness, a perfect outing….well, ideally, the children would be well-rested, well-fed, and well-behaved!! Then we would pack up lunch, grab the Bob (stroller) and hike to some of our favorite Malibu spots to enjoy a picnic lunch, tranquility, and good undistracted quality time together; that’s our family love language. Any new adventurous outing as a family is a source of joy for us these days.

4. What has been your family’s favorite memory of the University Church of Christ?

Several years ago, a small few of us started getting together each week as a married small group. We were all relatively young in our marriages and none of us had kids. Some of our deepest friendships have been with couples in these groups and what a blessing to watch one another grow in their marriages and into beautiful families. There was something magical about this time together and even to this day our small group has been among the most rewarding experiences we’ve had as a couple and now a family.
