April 7 Edition

Hello, church family!

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”

-Isaiah 55:10-11

God’s Word is living and active on earth.  Praise God for the way His Word goes to work!

-Laura Fehlbaum

Announcements

THIS SUNDAY — Tacos and Crepes! — Please join the UCC youth group MITS-bound team for a fundraiser lunch at Drescher park after church this Sunday, April 10.  Lee Morgan will be making street tacos and Steve Rouse will be making crepes.  YUM!!  All donations will go toward the team’s fundraising efforts and the projects the team will facilitate while there.  It will be a great way to fellowship as a church family and a great way to support our youth!

Annual Missions Contribution — LET’S KEEP GOING — On Sunday, April 3, we collected $23,269 of our $40,000 annual goal.  Thank you to all who generously gave.  If you still plan to give towards the Annual Missions Contribution, thank you as well—please designate your check as “Missions” on the memo line and place it in the offering plate.

Opsahl/Barton Wedding Shower — You are invited to a Come-and-Go Wedding Shower and Luncheon in honor of Falon Opsahl and Nate Barton on April 17 from 12:30 (or following worship) until 2:30 at the Schaffer’s condo (24203 Baxter Drive). We will have a time of blessing for them around 1:15. Falon and Nate are registered at Target and through their wedding website. If you’d like to contribute to the group gift, please contact Nancy Shatzer by Friday, April 15. We hope you will plan to join us!

The Little Family Appreciation Party — On Sunday, April 24, there will be an Appreciation Party for Rich Little and family for Rich’s years of full-time ministry here.  It will be a potluck lunch in the Fireside Room following our worship service.  Every household is asked to contribute one main dish and one side or one dessert to share. Drinks will be provided.  We hope everyone will be able to make it to special event.  ALSO, we are going to create a slide show of the time that the Littles have been here for the party.  We need as many pictures  as possible of as many different church events that we can get.  Use this link to contribute pictures by noon on Saturday, April 23.  (Pictures can be uploaded from your computer, phone or tablet.  You can upload as many as you want, but you have to upload them one at a time.)  Please contact Shannon Warwar if you have questions.

Serving at SOS — Mark your calendars with our upcoming SOS dates: April 21 and June 16. Please contact Katy Thompson for information about what food you can bring and how you can serve on these dates.

Campus Ministry Updates

-Vintage Natura  CM Spring Formal is coming up on April 16.  Photos will be taken at 5:30 p.m., and the dance will begin at 7:00 p.m.  Here are six reasons why you should come!

Youth Ministry Updates

-The dates for King’s Kamp this summer are July 31-August 6.  The camp will again be held in the mountains of Idyllwild.  Cost for this year’s camp is $345 per camper, provided you register by July 1.  After July 1, registration goes up to $370 per camper.  There is also an early bird discount: If registration is received by June 1, the cost is $320, so register soon to save!  We are also offering a discounted fee for each additional sibling coming to camp of $299.

Contact Dusty if you’re interested in serving as a King’s Kamp counselor this summer.

Bible Lectures 2016 — Pepperdine Bible Lectures is quickly approaching, May 3-6, and this year’s theme is “Cruciformed: Living in Light of the Jesus Story.”  Learn more and register here.

AWP is looking for a few great volunteers! — Sandy Stivers and Nancy Shatzer are requesting your assistance during Bible Lectures.  There are a few times specific times when help is needed: Thursday, May 5, at 2 pm, to bag yummy cookies for sale to raise money for student scholarships.  In addition, volunteers are needed at night, Tuesday through Thursday, at 7:30 pm.  If you have questions about serving in this way or can volunteer for a few hours, please contact Nancy.

Bible Lectures Housing Needed — Since our missionary in Ghana, Joseph Dzamesi, and his wife were not able to know if they could come to Bible Lectures until January, they are now in need of a place to stay.  Can anyone please house Joseph and Jennifer from May 3-8?  They will have all their meals on campus, so you would not need to cook for them.  Please contact Susan Giboney if you are willing to host.

HOPE4Kids 2016 — Update: make a donation here to the “University Church of Christ” team to support foster youth as well as encourage those of our congregation who are running, walking, and volunteering.

The 4th annual HOPE4Kids Festival & Run will be heldSaturday, April 23, 2016, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Camarillo Community Center (1605 E Burnley St, Camarillo). Our church and our group both have teams participating in this event that raises awareness and money for the needs of Ventura County foster youth. Register with the University Church of Christ team or UCC Youth Group team to run/walk or volunteer at www.hope4kids.myevent.com.  You can support this good work by attending and enjoying the food trucks, silent auction, vendor booths/shopping, community performers, and the FREE Kidzone (bounce houses, rock wall, gaming truck, and more). There is also an Adoption and Foster Fair, which will feature photos and profiles of current foster youth in need of homes. Other opportunities for involvement include being a vendor, donating a silent auction item, becoming a corporate sponsor, and making a donation in honor or someone who is volunteering or running/walking.  Thanks to the funds that were raised in previous HOPE4Kids events, hundreds of foster children have benefited from assistance in matters such as special medical care, orthodontic treatment, extracurricular activities, efforts to prevent a child from entering foster care or to keep them with relatives, and rent or college books for our transitioning aged youth (18-21 year olds). If you have any questions about how to get involved, contact Kari Coppinger. Above all, your prayer support is greatly desired for the event and more so for foster youth and families.
